THE IMPORTANCE OF EVIDENCE-BASED PUBLIC HEALTH INTERVENTIONS AND THE EXPERIENCE OF PUBLIC HEALTH TECHNOLOGY ASSESSMENT IN LITHUANIA

Evidence-based public health interventions support more effective and targeted decision-making in addressing issues such as chronic diseases and health inequalities. Public health technology assessment involves evaluating the effectiveness, cost-efficiency and health impact of interventions. In Lithuania, the Institute of Hygiene carries out this function based on defined priorities and expert collaboration. While certain assessments (e.g., on physical activity or alcohol reduction) have already informed policy, the overall integration of evidence into decision-making remains inconsistent. To increase impact, stronger integration of evidence-based policy, institutional cooperation, and practical application of assessment results is essential.
