Evaluation of Acetabular Remodeling after Open Reduction in Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip
Aim of the work: The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical and radiological outcome of acetabular remodeling following open reduction in cases with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and to assess Methods: This clinical study included 40 patients (48 hips) with DDH who underwent clinical and radiological evaluation for detection of acetabular remodeling after open reduction . Results: According to clinical evaluation using McKay criteria the majority of cases were good in 32 cases (66.6%). According to radiologic evaluation the acetabular index (AI) dramatically diminished from 39.10±3.86 preoperative to 25.40±2.19 postoperative. CEA rose markedly from 23.65±3.05 at post to 26.62±3.93 at the end of follow-up. According to Severin criteria majority of cases were type II in 30 cases (62.5%). Only 4 cases (8.20%) experienced complications. Conclusion: The physiological acetabular remodeling process suggests that allowing the hip to develop naturally after open reduction in DDH, especially for children operated under three years , as this is the optimal period for acetabular growth (the first four years of life). When hip fail to develop so pelvic osteotomy must added.
