Artificial Intelligence in Industry, Knowledge Computing and Decision-Making

This special issue on "Artificial Intelligence, in industry, knowledge computing and decision-making" is based upon the success of several special sessions of the joint FLINS-ISKE 2024 conference held in Madrid, July 16-21, 2024.These special sessions were devoted to different aspects of Artificial Intelligence (from data acquisition to industry applications, including model simulation, information fusion, automatic learning, decision support and decision-making under different kinds of uncertainty), which brought the attention of quite a number of participants at such a conference. The objective of this special issue is to offer the opportunity of putting together in one issue key ongoing research in the field, by means of an open call within the whole scientific community. In this open call, we received 116 papers, and a strict peer review led to publications of 18 papers that we think represent a nice selection of problems, models and methodologies, consistently to the scope of the International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems and the vision of Prof. Da Ruan (1960Ruan ( -2011)), who launched both FLINS and ISKE conference series, that every four years are jointly organized.FLINS, an acronym introduced in 1994 and originally for Fuzzy Logic and Intelligent Technologies in Nuclear Science, has become a well-established international research forum to advance the foundations and the applications of computational intelligence for applied research in general and for complex engineering and decision support systems. The principal mission of FLINS is bridging the gap between machine intelligence and real complex systems via joint research between universities and international research institutions, by encouraging interdisciplinary research and bringing multi-discipline researchers together.ISKE, an acronym originally for Intelligent Systems and Knowledge Engineering, was launched in 2006 aiming to give researchers the opportunity to carry out future-oriented research in applied intelligent systems to real-world engineering problems. For more than seventeen years, ISKE has become into a well-established worldwide and multidisciplinary research environment to advance the foundations and the applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in engineering systems. The open call for papers (not restricted at all to the joint conference were the project of a special issue devoted to artificial intelligence linked with industry, knowledge computing and decision-making was first discussed) stressed that the final selection to this special issue was going to be based on the quality and the originality in theory and methodology, its relevance to the topic of the special issue and its application orientation which exhibits novelty. This special issue brings together a diverse and interdisciplinary collection of research contributions addressing cutting-edge challenges in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven decisionmaking. The articles span a wide range of application domains, from medical imaging and circuit defect detection to virtual reality assessment and road infrastructure analysis.Methodologically, the issue showcases advanced techniques including neural networks, graph-based learning, transformers, federated learning, and fuzzy logic models, reflecting both theoretical innovation and practical impact.Several papers focus on deep https://doi.org/10.
