CAD Modelling and 3D Scanning of the Elements of the Wire Bending Mechanical Machine

A wire bending machine is a piece of apparatus that uses mechanical power to manipulate the shape or size of a wire for gainful use. The goal of this research is to analyze the functioning of the wire bending machine and perform 3D scanning on some elements of the machine with the aim of understanding its working mechanism and finding possible areas of improvement. The study begins by disassembling the parts of the machine as much as possible in order to fully understand its complexity. Each component is then measured precisely and modelled in a CAD software, in this case CATIA, so as to better visualize the different elements that it comprises and their connections. Following the CAD modelling, the next step aims to discover the geometric profiles of the elements and the accuracy of their measurements. We will perform 3D scanning on some of the elements of the machine to determine the complexity of their profiles and identify the deviations in measurement between the modelled parts and the scanned parts. Ultimately, we will make and present our deductions. This paper analyzes the application of modern techniques and new methodology in Wire Bending and 3D Scanning to open new perspectives in their industrial histories and for purposes of heritage protection for experts in the field.
