Siddha external application (pattru) Annabethi chendhuram for the management of uterine prolapse: A case report

Abstract Background: Uterine prolapse, a condition in which the uterine descends into or outside the vaginal canal due to weakened pelvic floor muscles (PFM) and ligaments, has been a significant concern in women’s health. In modern times, surgical interventions like hysterectomy and laparoscopy, as well as non-surgical interventions such as pessaries are used to treat uterine prolapse. Siddha medicine is holistic medicine, and it has to approach to managing uterine prolapse by balancing the body’s humors ( Dosham ), particularly Vatham . Case Report: A 42-year-old woman complained of constipation, stress urinary incontinence, vaginal mass while washing her genitalia, and discomfort. Prolapsed uterine (stage III) was the diagnosis after a physical examination of the pelvis. Application of Siddha external therapy of Annabethi chendhuram pattru was used, clinical symptoms were decreased after 20 days, and improvement in PFM was assessed after treatment. Conclusion: This case study demonstrates that Annabethi chendhuram can be used to effectively and economically treat prolapsed uterine – stage III.
