Estudio comparativo de adsorbentes comerciales versus fibra de Ananas comosus para derrames de petróleo crudo en agua.
This study is based on evaluating and comparing commercial or organic adsorbent materials for crude oil spills in water. Two Ecuadorian commercial materials (Uniclean adsorbent cloths and Ecotreat organic adsorbent) and Ananas comosus fiber are evaluated as adsorbents, where a chemical treatment with 96% ethanol is performed; to determine the adsorption capacity, an oil spill simulation is carried out using 20 ml of hydrocarbon with 25° API in 200 ml of water at room temperature. It was observed that the results of the adsorption capacity depend on some variables such as the weight and grams used of each adsorbent. The Ananas comosus fiber was shown to be hydrophilic during the remediation of crude oil in water, and only 5 g of the fiber was used compared to the commercial adsorbents, where 10 g of Ecotreat organic adsorbent and 1 Uniclean adsorbent diaper of 25 g were used. It was found that the Ananas comosus fiber has an adsorbent capacity equal or superior to the commercial materials to which it was compared.
