Study of the Synergistic Effect of Emulsion Gels and Methane Hydrate Slurry on Pipeline Plugging Characteristics
Summary In accordance with the conditions of the multiphase mixing pipeline that will be constructed in Xinjiang (China), simulation experiments by high-pressure flow loop have been designed to explore the plugging risks. The multiphase flow pattern dominated by bubble flow within the pipeline is analyzed through the superficial velocity and visual window observation. Flow loop experiments are conducted for the gas/water system, the waxy mineral oil/gas/water system, and the crude oil/gas/water system, respectively. The influence of temperature, pressure, and velocity on the flow rate variation of the system and the differential pressure of the experimental section is discussed. The investigation encompasses the analysis of hydrate volume fraction and water conversion rate over time during hydrate formation. The study aims to provide a comprehensive summary of the potential pipeline flow types in various systems and distinguish the difference between the plugging mechanisms of crude oil and model oil systems. It is meaningful for clarifying the impact of crude oil emulsion gels and methane hydrate slurries on pipeline flow assurance under low-temperature and high-pressure conditions.
