Configurable Dual-Frequency Siw Slot Array Antenna With a Wide Azimuth Field of View for Advanced Driver Assistance System
This paper presents the design and analysis of a configurable wide azimuth field-of-view (FoV) substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$W$</tex> band longitudinal slot array. The configurability of the two asymmetric antenna radiation patterns at <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\pm 45^{\circ}$</tex> can be set by selecting the center frequency of the FMCW (Frequency modulated continuous wave) chirp waveform. The antenna design is integrated with notch and high-pass filters (HPF) to achieve peak in radiation pattern at <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$-45^{\circ}$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$+45^{\circ}$</tex> azimuth degrees at 76.5 GHz and 80 GHz, respectively. Each antenna has four pair slots. The lengths of the paired slots are different, tailored to the desired illumination angle. This configuration works in a singlearray antenna design. The novel design can be used for various applications that require the identification of objects across a wide range of angles. Consequently, it enhances driver assistance systems and prevents collisions. The proposed antenna has improved detection range at higher frequency bands. That makes it more useful for advanced automotive and radar applications. Additionally, tolerance studies on via placement and slot dimensions show that the antenna design has robust performance even under the parameter variation.
