Evaluation of Brain Signal Quality in Virtual Reality: Detection of Infrared Signal Interference Using the fNIRS Device
This study explored the potential signal interference between the infrared light used by eye-tracking-enabled virtual reality (VR) device and the infrared light used by Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) device. The results showed that the lower optodes of the fNIRS device produced substantial signal fluctuations (i.e. cycles) once the eye tracking camera within the VR device was activated, whereas the signal of the upper optodes remained stable. Potential solutions to minimize such interference are briefly discussed.
