Investigation of Modular-Stator Flux Modulated Wind Generators with IPM and SPM Rotor Structures
Modular-stator flux modulated wind generators (MSFMWGs) offer significant advantages, including enhanced power density and simplified assembly, making them increasingly attractive for renewable energy applications. This paper conducts a comprehensive comparison and analysis of two MSFMWGs: one with an interior permanent magnet (IPM) rotor and the other with a surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) rotor. The working principles and structural topologies of both designs are introduced, followed by an investigation into how key design parameters influence their voltage output characteristics. Finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to evaluate and contrast their electromagnetic performance. The findings demonstrate that compared with IPM MSFMWG, the SPM MSFMWG exhibiting superior flux linkage, higher back-EMF, lower cogging torque, and better overload capability, which is particularly advantageous for wind energy conversion systems.
