Dynamic Power Reference Adjustment Strategy for Grid-Strengthening Equipment

This paper presents a novel dynamic power reference adjustment strategy for grid-strengthening equipment aimed at enhancing the low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) performance of grid-forming converters in weak grid conditions. The proposed method decouples the fixed relationship between active power and power angle by dynamically adjusting the active power reference in response to voltage sags, while an adaptive reactive power compensation mechanism limits transient overcurrent. A comprehensive mathematical model is developed to elucidate the relationship between reactive power setpoints and current disturbances during grid faults. Simulation results demonstrate that the strategy effectively stabilizes the power angle, confines the output current within safe bounds, and maintains voltage support under severe disturbances, thereby improving transient stability and equipment safety in converter-dominated power systems with high renewable energy penetration.
