Joint RFI and Clutter Suppression in a Low-Altitude Surveillance Radar

We propose a novel approach for radar detection in environments with radio-frequency interferences (RFIs) and intense clutter. Our method provides a holistic solution to suppress both clutter and RFI using a subspace projection technique. Rather than utilizing zero-patching, we employ amplitude interpolation to replace the identified amplitudes of asynchronous RFIs. By incorporating this interpolation step, our approach not only reduces asynchronous interference energy but also maintains the coherence of clutter echoes, facilitating subsequent clutter suppression. The merits of the proposed technique are showcased on an X-band low-altitude surveillance radar deployed in a coastal urban area with strong RFIs and clutter.
