Analysis of Electroosmotic Flow in Porous Media

This study presents a numerical model of electroosmotic flow in porous media, featuring a system comprising a sintered porous material chamber and two electrodes generating an electric field. The system incorporates both pressure-driven flow and electroosmotic flow mechanisms. Using COMSOL Multiphysics software, we performed finite element method (FEM)-based numerical simulations to investigate fluid mixing processes, analyzing the respective impacts of pressure-driven flow and electroosmotic flow on solute concentration distribution. The results demonstrate that alternating electric field-driven electroosmosis combined with pressure-driven flow can effectively modify flow patterns within porous structures. This synergistic mechanism provides insights for optimizing mixing efficiency in porous media systems.
