Investigation Into the Regenerative Braking Control Strategy for Vehicles with Wheel-Side Drive Systems

To enhance the energy recovery efficiency during braking in electric vehicles with wheel-side drive systems, with the goal of increasing the mileage of electric vehicles and alleviating range anxiety, this paper focuses on wheel-side driven electric vehicles as the subject of study. By understanding the principle of regenerative braking, a revised strategy for distributing braking force between the front and rear axles, based on the I curve, <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$f$</tex> curve, and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$M$</tex> curve, has been formulated., ensuring the most basic safety. A strategy for allocating electromechanical and fluid braking forces, predicated on the maximum electric motor braking force, has been devised, prioritizing electric braking during braking, with the insufficient part provided by hydraulic braking, thereby ensuring maximum energy recovery. Finally, the energy recovery control model constructed in Simulink is co-simulated with CarSim. As the braking intensity increases, the proportion of motor participation decreases, and the energy recovery rate shows a downward trend. The simulation results indicate that, compared to braking without energy recovery, the designed strategy achieves an optimized distribution of braking force, resulting in a braking energy recovery rate of 33.0 % under the EPA urban cycle conditions and 22.4 % under the EPA HWY condition. The strategy ensures effective energy recovery.
