El agua como enemiga: la Ciudad de México y sus desafíos hídricos
Since its founding atop a lake, Mexico City has maintained a conflicted relationship with water, historically regarded as an enemy to be subdued. This essay offers a critical reflection on that hostility by exploring the issue through three lenses: physical, anthropological, and ontological. Through a historical, philosophical, and poetic analysis, it argues that the technical domination of water has stripped it of its sacredness, eroding our ability to care for and be awed by nature. In light of environmental degradation and the current water crisis, the author calls for an ethical and emotional reconciliation with water, grounded in oikophilia-a love and respect for our shared home. Only by recovering this stance can we envision a truly livable city.
