The Standard Model Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

The 1970s was the decade of the standard model! This decade whichbegan with quantum field theory in disarray ended with a practical set of QFT toolsfor calculations for strong interactions at high and low energies and for electroweakinteractions at all energies. After briefly remembering how we got there, I celebrate theremarkable achievements of particle physics in the 1970s and comment on where wego from here.

Abstract

The 1970s was the decade of the standard model! This decade whichbegan with quantum field theory in disarray ended with a practical set of QFT toolsfor calculations for strong interactions at high and low energies and for electroweakinteractions at all energies. After briefly remembering how we got there, I celebrate theremarkable achievements of particle physics in the 1970s and comment on where wego from here.
