A study on the Self-assessment of Public Design in Local Governments : Focusing on the 11 cities and counties in Chungcheongbuk-do

This study aims to re-examine the significance of public design policy in enhancing urban competitiveness and to develop an effective self-assessment system for local governments. First, evaluation indicators, an index composition system, and a scoring method were derived through prior research and theoretical considerations. Four evaluation fields and a total of 17 evaluation indicators were established. These indicators were refined through two Focus Group Interviews (FGI) with eight experts to ensure objectivity. The finalized self-assessment indicators were then applied to evaluate 11 cities and counties in Chungcheongbuk-do. The results ranked Chungju-si, Jecheon-si, Jincheon-gun, and Cheongju-si in that order. This study confirmed the strengths and weaknesses of public design in these local governments, and the findings are expected to contribute to establishing utilization plans for the evaluation indicators and reflecting them in local government plans.
