The singer's body: neuroscience, aesthetic experience, movement and the Theory of Multiple Intelligences
The role of the body in any performance is undeniable. When we think of performance, we expect to see the body acting. In vocal performance, this is no different. However, the means of developing the body for singing performance are still unclear. It was from this concern that this investigation into the body emerged from different perspectives. The objective was to find answers for the formulation of a possible methodology for body work, specifically for singers. Initially, we took as a theoretical basis author of arias from neuroscience, aesthetics, movement, and psychology, to think about the body in the most holistic way possible and compare their perspectives. Results demonstrate correlations between the thoughts of these areas, even though they have not always worked in sync. More specifically, there seems to be, in the Theory of Multiple Intelligences, an opening and a possibility of progress in the direction of our object of study: the body of the singer.
