NaH Catalyzed Synthesis of Pentasubstituted Cyclohexanol from Aryl Methyl Ketone and Aromatic Aldehyde

Abstract Cyclohexane derivatives are found in various natural products, serve as building block in organic chemistry and have applications in polymer chemistry. Various drugs also contain cyclohexane moiety. Due to their wide applications in various fields, developing a new strategy for their synthesis becomes crucial. A facile synthesis of a series of multiple stereocenters containing 1,2,3,4,5‐pentasubstituted cyclohexanols using a 3:2 reaction mixture of aryl methyl ketone and aromatic aldehyde in the presence of 20 mol% of NaH under solvent‐free as well as aerobic conditions has been described. These compounds were characterized well by using various spectroscopic techniques.
