Investigation of ferrous-benzoic-xylenol-based dosimeter for low dose irradiation applications

Fricke chemical dosimeters based on ferrous and ferric solutions are used for determination of absorbed dose measurements. The Fricke dosimeter is used in the dose range of 20–400 Gy. For the estimation of absorbed dose in the range of 1–10 Gy, a modified Fricke dosimeter with benzoic acid and xylenol orange is used. In this study, ferrous-benzoic-xylenol-based chemical dosimeter was evaluated for low dose irradiation applications. The molar extinction was found to be 18753 ± 530 M −1 cm −1 . The calibration curve between the absorbed dose and absorbance values was found to be linear with a correlation coefficient value of 0.99. The chemical yield was found to be 4.7 ± 0.2 × 10 −6 mol/J.
