Design study and experimental validation of a video-imaging rain gauge
Video imaging raindrop spectrometer has been put into use by using high-speed industrial cameras to capture precipitation particles. However, due to the unwieldy nature of the production process, there has been a paucity of design studies related to video imaging raindrop spectrometers that have been published. Accurate rainfall modelling is fundamental to telecommunication, remote sensing and meteorological research, and the use of video imaging technology can provide richer data for the rainfall observation. The article delineates the research design, encompassing the selection of the construction of the hardware observation platform, the rapid identification and matching of raindrops, and the conduct of experiments related to the verification of the steel ball and rainfall. It is determined that the camera's accuracy in capturing bearing steel balls is greater than 83%, and calculates that the accuracy of two rainfall rainfalls based on the measured readings of the rainfall cups is 90.8% and 74.3%. The study thus demonstrates the correlation between the number of raindrops recorded by the video imaging technology and the amount of rainfall, and the intensity level of the rainfall.
