ANALYSIS OF DAMAGE FROM CONDUCTED AND FUTURE NUCLEAR WEAPONS TESTS IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC REGION IN THE 2020-2030s
The article presents an analysis of the consequences of the conducted and foreseeable nuclear tests in the South Pacific region. Based on the source base, an assessment of the progressive damage to the subregions of Oceania-Polynesia, Melanesia and Micronesia in the 2020s - 2030s is presented. Facts are presented that prove the ineffectiveness of protective measures at existing nuclear test facilities in the South Pacific region, which affects the global ecosystem of the entire world ocean. Concerns are expressed that future infrastructure facilities protecting nuclear weapons testing areas will also not meet the appropriate quality standards, leading to subsequent radiation leaks and its spread in the waters of all developing countries of Oceania, as well as the Philippines and Indonesia. A system has been proposed to raise the standards of legal regulation of the issue, taking into account the experience of New Zealand regarding prohibitions on dumping radioactive fuel from the US Navy in its waters.
