Ensino em Serviço Social e Direitos Humanos
This article discusses the interrelationship between human rights and professional education in Social Work in Brazil. Based on the 1988 Federal Constitution, which establishes human dignity as a fundamental principle, the study analyzes the role of Social Work in ensuring these rights and the challenges faced in the context of social inequalities and neoliberal policies. The evolution of the profession is explored, from its initial welfare-oriented character to its consolidation as a critical practice committed to social justice. Additionally, the influence of curricular guidelines on the education of social workers is examined, highlighting the centrality of human rights in teaching, research, and professional practice. The integration of theory, practice, and research is emphasized as a key element of academic qualification, underscoring the role of the Brazilian Association for Teaching and Research in Social Work (ABEPSS) in defining educational guidelines in the field. The article concludes that Social Work education must ensure a critical approach committed to social transformation, preparing professionals capable of advocating for human rights and equity.
