Documentation for tree improvement through selection of candidate plus trees (cpts) in Latehar and Dalma wildlife sanctuary
Tree improvement is a crucial aspect of forestry that enhances the productivity, qualityand sustainability of forest resources. The selection of Candidate Plus Trees (CPTs) is a fundamental strategy in genetic improvement programs, particularly in regions like Jharkhand, which hosts diverse forest ecosystems. For the selection of Candidate Plus Trees (CPTs) all over Jharkhand, there are 36 forest divisions, through which Latehar has the highest forest cover area according to the Indian State of Forest Report 2023 (Jharkhand Forest Department Reports 2021-2023). This document outlines the procedure and significance of utilizing local communities to document forest tree species. During this survey, focus on the importance, methodologies and impact of CPT selection in Jharkhand, along with its implications for sustainable forestry and biodiversity conservation. This approach contributes to a more holistic and comprehensive understanding of forest biodiversity, supports conservation efforts and enhances sustainable management practices. Focusing on the role of local people in species identification, monitoring, and conservation, this method provides a culturally relevant and scientifically reliable framework for forest management.
