Trabeculectomy in a Silicone Oil-Filled Eye: Case Report
Secondary ocular hypertension or glaucoma is common following vitreoretinal (VR) surgeries, and many surgical options exist today, to manage uncontrolled intraocular pressure. Trabeculectomy is a widely performed glaucoma surgical procedure that has stood the test of time, since its introduction by J. Cairns. In secondary glaucoma, trabeculectomy even with anti-fibrotic agents is less preferred due to its high failure rate. We report a case of secondary glaucoma following VR surgery in which trabeculectomy with mitomycin C (MMC) achieved surgical success defying the odds. The intraoperative challenges and post-operative measures to this success are touched upon.
