A Case of Anaemic Retinopathy
A 45-year-old man presented with complaints of sudden onset painless dimunition of vision, multiple floaters 25 days back. He had a systemic history of hypertension, coronary artery disease, and type 2 diabetes mellitus for 4 years. His best corrected visual acuity was 6/18 P in right eye, 6/6 in left eye. Fundus examination revealed multiple bilateral dot blot haemorrhages, roth spots at posterior pole in both eyes, submacular haemorrhage in right eye [Figure 1a and b]. A complete hemogram revealed 5.8 g/dl haemoglobin with decreased haematocrit and platelet count; increased prothrombin time The clinical findings were suggestive of anaemic retinopathy. Optical coherence tomography macula confirmed submacular haemorrhage in right eye. In view of low haematocrit, he was referred to haematologist. A total of eight fresh frozen plasma were transfused. He lost to follow up with us.Figure 1: (a) OD showing multiple dot blot haemorrhages (arrowheads), roth spots (asterisks) at the posterior pole and submacular haemorrhage (arrow).
