Snowflake Degeneration of Intraocular Lens with Target Sign
A 60-year-old female presented with painless, gradually progressive defective vision in her left eye (LE) for two months. She had undergone manual small incision cataract surgery with poly methyl methacrylate intraocular lens implantation (IOL) 3 years ago. Examination revealed a best corrected visual acuity of 20/200 and an opacified IOL with central, dry, greyish-white crystalline deposits arranged in the appearance of a target sign, suggestive of snowflake degeneration of IOL [Figure 1a and b]. The patient was advised IOL exchange but was not willing to do the same.Figure 1: (a and b) Slit lamp photograph taken using oblique and retro illumination, respectively. It depicts an opacified PMMA intraocular lens with central, dry, greyish-white crystalline deposits arranged in the appearance of a bull’s eye targetDeclaration of patient consent Due consent has been obtained from the patient/guardian.
