Ammonia – an old metabolite brings new insights into Alzheimer’s disease
Ammonia, a metabolite produced in nearly all body tissues, including through branched-chain amino acid metabolism, can accumulate in the brain and induce functional changes, particularly in astrocytes. These changes suggest potential mechanisms that may link ammonia with the progression and worsening of Alzheimer’s disease.
