The Situation of Urdu in the Linguistic Landscape: AnAnalysisofInter-Linguistic Interactions

This paper explores the dynamic linguistic landscape of Urdu in the context of interlingual interactions, focusing on the impact of globalization, multilingualism, and socio-cultural transformations.Traditionally seen as a marker of South Asian cultural identity, Urdu today is undergoing significant shifts due to contact with English and regional languages, as well as exposure to digital media.The study analyzes emerging linguistic phenomena such as code-switching, lexical borrowing, and hybridization, highlighting their role in the evolutionary trajectory of Urdu.It also examines how Urdu, while being influenced by other languages, exerts a reciprocal cultural and linguistic impact, particularly in media and popular discourse.Furthermore, the increasing visual presence of Urdu in public and commercial spaces opens new avenues for research in semiotic and urban linguistics.The paper concludes by advocating for an interdisciplinary approach to Urdu studies that incorporates contemporary linguistic theories and promotes scholarly engagement with Urdu's evolving identity in a globalized world.
