Research on Employee Burnout and Work Efficiency ImprovementTaking Uber as an Example

This study investigates employee burnout and how to improve work efficiency by solving burnout issues within the gig economy, using Uber drivers (UDs) as a case. For now, there is limited research that addresses gig workers compared with the growing focus on traditional sectors. Based on existing papers, this paper discusses two solutions: enhancing Ubers algorithmic system and implementing a minimum wage for UDs. Algorithmic improvements may reduce the pressure of UDs due to increased transparency and loosen requirement. However, customer rating abuse as well as the profit-driven motives of Uber company restrict driver autonomy. In contrast, by introducing a minimum wage policy, both UD earnings and passenger satisfaction could be increased. Additionally, a potential expansion of Ubers labor pool and market competitiveness could be expected. Although both strategies have merits, a wage floor enforced by strict regulation is deemed more feasible and impactful as it directly improves drivers salaries, which addresses one root cause of burnout. Though Uber may resist cost in the short-term from solving burnout, it could be argued that long-term benefits for drivers, passengers, and the company highlight its practicality.
