THE IMPACT OF MOBILE COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES ON THE ENVIRONMENT
This paper examines the impact of mobile technologies on reducing the environmental footprint of manufacturing. Using a sample of 47 countries for the period 2010–2023, it is shown that increasing the proportion of enterprises using mobile broadband and the overall mobile index of a country leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions and other pollutants into the atmosphere during industrial production. In addition, the diffusion of mobile technologies has a significant positive impact on the country’s sustainable development index. At the same time, the use of mobile technologies also has negative consequences in the form of greater energy consumption in the production and operation of numerous mobile devices and data centers.
