Gender-Based Perceptions of Sports Facilities in University Hostels: A MannWhitney U Test Analysis

This study explores gender-based perceptions of sports facilities within university hostels in a prestigious Indian institution, using the Mann-Whitney U test for analysis. A survey was conducted among 95 students from a prestigious university located in Delhi, India (53.7% male, 46.3% female), aged 18-25 years, evaluating five key dimensions: facility availability, quality, management, participationsupport, and value for money. Despite the robust content validity and reliability of the survey tool, results revealed low overall satisfaction across all dimensions. Statistical analysis indicated no significant gender-based differences in perceptions (p > 0.05). However, facility quality positively correlated with management practices (rs= .212, p = .039), suggesting that better facility management may enhance perceived quality. These findings highlight systemic issues in sports infrastructure and suggest targeted improvements to promote inclusivity and optimize resource allocation. The study provides actionable insights for administrators to enhance the sports facilities.
