Isolation and Characterization of Endophytes from Herbal Medicinal Plant Ichnocarpus frutescens and Evaluation of Their Bioactive Potential

Current research is the first report on the diversity and medicinal properties of the endophytes isolated from an Indian herbal medicinal plant Ichnocarpus frutescens which is known for its potential medicinal properties.Nearly 250 fungal and bacterial cultures were isolated from leaf (150), Stem (50) and roots (50) and were characterized through morphological identification.Highest colonizing frequency and highest endophytes were observed from leaf samples among others. The major fungal isolates identified belong to the genera Cladosporium, Phyllosticta, Chaetomium, Colletotricum, Pestalotiopsis, Acremonium, Aspergillus, Alternaria, Epicoccum, Nigrospora, Curvularia, Fusarium, Trichoderma and Colletotrichum. The cultures were screened for their potential biological activities such as in-vitro antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiinflammatory and cytotoxicity assays employing advance methodologies. The results were shown the positive effect to all the biological studies carried out.The endophytes from I. frutescens are shown significant activities may be helpful for the production of bioactive compounds for future therapeutic innovations.
