Efeitos de um programa de exercícios calisténicos na qualidade de vida e atividades de vida diária de pessoas com Doença Pulmonar Obstrutiva Crónica

Exercise intolerance is identified by individuals with chronic respiratory diseases as one of the main factors limiting their participation in daily living activities. Exercise training is essential in pulmonary rehabilitation programs, helping to mitigate damage, especially related to muscle dysfunction. However, many patients with respiratory diseases are unable to perform exercises involving external loads. Calisthenics exercises can provide a more feasible alternative, as they do not require external weights and allow for progressive adaptations, promoting a gradual increase in physical capacity. This project aims to evaluate the impact of a rehabilitation program using calisthenics exercises for patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). A single-group quasi-experimental study design was chosen, involving 30 patients diagnosed with COPD. Participants will undergo an initial interview, functionality tests, and quality of life assessment scales, both before and after completing 16 sessions of calisthenics exercises. The primary objective is to determine whether the calisthenics exercise program improves the quality of life, ability to perform daily living activities, and clinical condition of participants, aligning with the outcomes of pulmonary rehabilitation programs recommended by Portugal's Directorate-General of Health. Additionally, this program seeks to have a broader societal impact by offering an alternative to traditional pulmonary rehabilitation programs, reducing healthcare costs, encouraging physical activity, and contributing to scientific knowledge.
