IMPLEMENTACIÓN DE ESTRATEGIAS DE INTERVENCIÓN PARA LA PROMOCIÓN DE CONTROL PRENATAL Y LA NUTRICIÓN MATERNA EN LA CLÍNICA BIENESTAR, GESTIÓN II-2024

In Bolivia, prenatal checkups and maternal nutrition represent challenges, especially in La Paz and El Alto. Although many women access consultations and most children are breastfed, only 60% are exclusively breastfed. Adequate prenatal care and breastfeeding promotion are key to maternal and child health. Objectives: To promote the importance of prenatal checkups and maternal nutrition, this intervention was carried out at the Bienestar Clinic in District 12 of El Alto. Materials and methods: A community-based educational intervention was developed, targeting 15 pregnant and postpartum women, selected by convenience, through informative talks on maternal and child health, prenatal checkups, exclusive breastfeeding, and nutrition during pregnancy. Pre- and post-tests were administered to assess the acquired knowledge. Results: After the educational intervention, a significant increase in participants’ knowledge was evident. 70.3% answered correctly regarding prenatal checkups in the final evaluation. Regarding maternal nutrition, prior knowledge was 77.7%, increasing to 89% after the intervention. Conclusions: The intervention was effective in increasing knowledge about prenatal health and maternal nutrition in a vulnerable population.
