BORYS HRINCHENKO IN THE MEMORIES OF CONTEMPORARIES

First and foremost, it is worth beginning with the words of Borys Hrinchenko himself. In his autobiography, the writer saw his unwavering commitment to his convictions as the most important aspect: “My biography is of no interest to anyone. What is more interesting is how it happened that I did not become a traitor” [7, p. 5]. According to the memoirs of his wife, Mariia Zahirnia, Hrinchenko’s honesty and human dignity were decisive during his imprisonment, already then earning the young Borys the respect and admiration of the intellectual youth [2, p. 7].
