Maintenance Therapy of Acne – Prerequisites and Possibilities

Acne is one of the most common skin conditions, characterized by a long course, a tendency to scar formation and a wide range of nosogenic anxiety and depressive disorders. The treatment of acne includes, in addition to therapy aimed at achieving control of the disease, a maintenance treatment phase. Despite the fact that the need for maintenance therapy is obvious, there are few publications that provide the results of its effectiveness, the recommendations have low validity, and the choice of drugs, regimens and duration of their prescription are debated. The article provides information on current ideas about maintenance therapy of acne, evidence of its efficacy, the place of agents for external and systemic use, and emphasizes information about the possibilities of dermatocosmetics.
