Kendrick Lamar Duckworth as Viewed through His Music and Life
Kendrick Lamar Duckworth (known by his stage name “Kendrick Lamar”) is hailed as his generation’s greatest rapper and lyricist. His 2017 DAMN was the first rap album to win a Pulitzer Prize in Music for “capturing the complexity of modern African-American life” (n.a., 2019). He worked alongside former president Barack Obama for the Pay It Forward program to mentor inner-city youth, and he received the Generational Icon Award from the California State Senate for his philanthropic work. Although Lamar writes from an African American perspective, his ingenuity as an artist stems from his ability to lyrically explore themes that transcend geographical and social differences while remaining authentic to his story, artistry, and vision.
