Innovation risk management at different stages of enterprise innovation activity

Introduction. Innovation risk management is a key aspect of successful innovation activity, as each stage of the innovation process is associated with specific uncertainties and threats. At different stages—from idea generation to commercialization—risks vary in nature and potential impact on outcomes. Timely identification and effective management of these risks can significantly increase the likelihood of innovation project success. Purpose. The aim of the article is to explore the management of innovation risks at various stages of enterprise innovation activity and to develop effective approaches to their minimization. Methods. A comprehensive methodological approach was used in the study, incorporating document analysis, SWOT analysis, risk diagnostics, economic modelling, expert assessments, and scenario planning. These methods enabled the identification and evaluation of risks at each stage of the innovation process—from idea identification to innovation commercialization. DOI: https://doi.org/10.35774/econa2025.01.283 Results. The article examines the main aspects of innovation risk management across different stages of innovation activity and identifies the specific risks arising at each stage. It analyses the tools and methods for risk minimization, including market analysis, technological forecasting, quality control, and strategic planning. It is found that at the idea stage, demand and competition analysis are crucial; at the prototype development stage, technological forecasting and quality assurance are key; and at the commercialization stage, market research and flexible pricing strategies play a central role.
