O PAPEL DO ENFERMEIRO NOS CUIDADOS PALIATIVOS PRESTADOS A PACIENTES TERMINAIS: DESAFIOS E ESTRATÉGIAS PARA UMA ASSISTÊNCIA HUMANIZADA
Objectives: to identify the role of nurses in palliative care provided to terminally ill patients, focusing on the challenges and strategies for humanized care. Methodology: this is a scoping review, prepared based on the PRISMA extension guidelines. The identification and selection of studies were carried out between May 2024 and April 2025 in the Pubmed database. Results: the search resulted in 873 articles, of which 10 met the inclusion criteria. Discussion: The studies indicate that the main difficulty of nursing in palliative care for terminally ill patients is the lack of specific preparation and training, in addition to challenges in understanding the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of these patients. The shortage of qualified professionals and specialized support are also pointed out as factors that hinder adequate care. The need for investment in continuous training of the team is emphasized, so that nurses acquire skills to deal with the suffering and complex conditions of terminally ill patients. Conclusion: Nursing care for terminally ill patients requires a holistic, sensitive, and individualized approach, considering both the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families. The importance of including specific content on palliative care in nursing training is highlighted, with an emphasis on simulated practices that develop the technical and emotional skills necessary for the management of terminally ill patients. The effective performance of nurses in palliative care involves active listening, empathy, and the development of skills to detect and alleviate suffering, promoting the dignity and comfort of patients in their final moments of life.
