Design, Development, and Large-Scale Usability Evaluation of BehaviourCoach 2.0: An Exergaming App
With the increasing ubiquity of web access, and smart phones, exergaming apps have emerged as effective tools for promoting healthy behaviours. BehaviourCoach 2.0 is a web-based exergaming application designed to encourage physical activity and well-being through a Monopoly-style board game that integrates fitness tasks and health advice, with no requirements for specialised equipment. Its content is adaptable to suit participants’ demographic profiles, and it can be accessed in either local and online multiplayer modes to enhance accessibility and engagement. This paper details the user-centred design and development of BehaviourCoach 2.0, emphasising its flexibility and cultural adaptability. A large-scale usability evaluation was conducted with nine hundred and fifteen (N = 915) participants from the Republic of Mauritius, representative of the country's general population. The System Usability Scale (SUS) used resulted in a mean score of 77.06 (SD = 19.29), indicating high usability and strong user engagement. These findings highlight the potential of the app as a scalable digital health intervention for promoting physical activity and well-being across diverse populations.
