IoT Based Wastewater Temperature, pH And Turbidity Monitoring with Data Analytics and Visualisation

The focus of this study is the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) into wastewater monitoring for an improved real-time monitoring through data analytics and visualisation. This paper presents design and development of a mini wastewater prototype with the use of smart sensors and IoT microcontroller. IoT devices are interconnected to perform data collection of wastewater attributes, particularly the temperature, pH and turbidity. The collected data are then stored in a Cloud database for analytical purposes. A notable feature of this study is that, an analytical dashboard is built to visualise critical information in a meaningful manner, i.e., data plotting and graphing. Based on the analysed data, potential wastewater treatment solutions are proposed to improve the temperature, pH and turbidity levels to a desirable state. This study has successfully proven the potential practicability of real-time wastewater monitoring, analytics and visualisation to be applied into an operational environment.
