Correction of biochemical parameters in rat jaws and blood by the therapeutic and prophylactic complex under conditions of modeling dental caries
Annotation. An effective way to model dental caries in rats is to keep the animals on high-sugar diets. The consumption of large amounts of sugar not only leads to molar caries, but also disrupts bone metabolism and increases inflammatory processes in the body. Objective: to investigate the effect of oral cavity treatment with dental gels «Calcid» and «Biotrit-Denta» and administration of osteoporotic drugs INOS and Orthomol Immun on biochemical markers of bone metabolism in the jaws and blood of Wistar rats under conditions of cariesogenic diet consumption. One-month-old male rats were divided into three groups of 10 animals each: 1 – intact on a standard diet, 2 – high-sugar modified diet of Bugayova and Nikitin (2023) (HSD), 3 – therapeutic and prophylactic complex of drugs (TPC) against the background of HSD. Duration – 2 months. The gels were applied to the gums at a dose of 300 mg/kg: «Calcid» – during the first month, «Biotrit-Denta» – during the second month, INOS (180 mg/kg) and Orthomol Immun (1350 mg/kg) were administered orally. The activity of acid and alkaline phosphatases, elastase, calcium content were determined in the bone tissue of the alveolar processes. The activity of acid phosphatase and elastase was determined in the blood serum. Consumption of HSD led to a twofold increase in the activities of acid phosphatase and elastase in the alveolar process, a twofold decrease in the activity of alkaline phosphatase and a 16.1% decrease in calcium content, indicating activation of resorption and inhibition of bone synthesis. In blood serum, it led to an increase in the activity of inflammatory markers: acid phosphatase by 56.4% and elastase by 46.8%. TPC helped to maintain the values of indicators at levels close to intact values.
