Algorithm for screening patients with long bone fractures in the background of COVID-19
Annotation. The aim of the study is to develop a modern unified algorithm for screening patients with fractures against the background of COVID-19, which will allow to separate patients with fractures and coronavirus infection, reduce the impact of the negative consequences of this infection and prevent the development of complications in this category of patients. 153 patients of the prospective array participated in our study. For this purpose, we formed a prospective study array, which consisted of two groups. The first group included patients with long bone fractures who were treated according to the unified algorithm for screening victims with trauma against the background of COVID-19 during the epidemic period, and the control group – according to the fracture treatment protocol adopted in the clinic. The proposed algorithm for screening victims with trauma against the background of COVID-19 during the epidemic period allows for strict screening for COVID-19, which is necessary for those patients who need emergency treatment of fractures during the epidemic period. We proposed a clinical pathway for perioperative COVID-19 screening, which aimed to exclude COVID-19 cases at the beginning of clinical activities in order to minimize the likelihood of nosocomial transmission of the virus. Conclusions: The development and implementation of a new algorithm for screening victims with trauma on the background of COVID-19 during the epidemic period allowed to improve the treatment plan for patients with long bone fractures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
