Analogical Metaphysics and the Seamless Garment of Reality: A Response to John Betz's Christ the Logos of Creation
Abstract John Betz's work Christ the Logos of Creation argues that theology is obliged to pursue metaphysics for the sake of demonstrating the import of the Christian faith for reality as such. This essay highlights how Betz's careful analysis of the dispute between Erich Przywara and Karl Barth over the analogy of being assists Catholics and Protestants in dissolving false disputes, thereby sharpening the terms of ecumenical engagement. It ends by proposing that the anti‐metaphysical account of God‐talk given by Kevin Hector offers an unlikely resource for furthering ecumenical dialog over the promise and perils of theological metaphysics today.
