ON BRINGING UP FUTURE TEACHERS BY MEANS OF FILM PEDAGOGY IN THE PROCESS OF STUDYING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE
The authors focus on the problem of bringing up future teachers by means of film pedagogy when studying a foreign language. The emphasis is made on the possibility of enhancing the educational effect and work on the formation of universal competences of future teachers alongside with implementation of interdisciplinary connections. The principles of selecting didactic materials are described, on the basis of which it is possible to more successfully solve the problems of upbringing in the process of studying a foreign language. Among them are ideas of a value-based attitude to one’s country, respect for the history, culture and traditions of different peoples. The authors also apply these principles to the selection of the English-language documentaries and feature films, both for the development of linguistic competences and for deepening students’ background historical knowledge and developing their respectful attitude to the cultural and historical values and traditions of the country of the studied language. The authors believe that it is important to pay special attention to students’ better understanding of the leading role of our country and the Soviet people in achieving the great victory, the formation of the anti-Hitler coalition, and the unification of peoples’ efforts in the fight against Nazism. The authors describe methods of work, related to this approach, using the example of the study of the film “The King’s Speech" in the original. These methods do not only enhance the didactic effect of studying a foreign language, but are also largely aimed at achieving goals of bringing up the best personal qualities of future teachers.
