Education for resonance: a framework for assessing educational technologies in rural schools
Technology usage in rural schools has benefits that can lead us to undercount the costs. While technology has proven useful in facilitating learning that is impossible to facilitate in rural schools, it has also been used indiscriminately. When we stop looking at rural schools solely through a deficit lens, we see that rural schools have powerful assets that are undermined through uncritical uses of technology. Rural schools are uniquely positioned to provide resonant experiences, and technology can disrupt resonance in ways that are often difficult to conceptualise. This discussion paper offers a lens and a framework for assessing innovative technological solutions to problems in rural schools by offering a conceptualisation of resonant experiences that practitioners and policymakers can utilise when assessing educational technologies.
