Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture in Rajasthan: Solutions Through Geospatial Analysis
The study titled "Climate-Hydrological Modeling and Regional Water Security Strategies" offers practical and multi-tiered solutions to address the unprecedented mass loss of Himalayan glaciers due to global warming, the resulting changes in seasonal river flows, and the growing threat of long-term water scarcity. The research employs Remote Sensing and GIS-based techniques to precisely measure changes in glacial area and volume, and uses hydrological models such as HBV and SWAT to simulate melt-induced flow patterns. Additionally, GRACE and GLIMS datasets are integrated for model validation and uncertainty analysis. Key findings indicate that by the year 2050, glacier mass may decline by approximately 15%, and by 2100, the reduction could reach 30%. This would likely lead to an increase of 20% in peak summer flows and a 25% reduction in winter flows. Regional analysis revealed that the Eastern Himalayas are more prone to rapid melting and flow instability, while the Western Himalayas remain relatively stable. Based on these insights, the proposed water security measures include provisions from the National Water Policy, 2012, rainwater harvesting, managed aquifer recharge, transboundary agreements, and the establishment of real-time monitoring networks. These strategies aim to offer a sustainable and long-term solution to the Himalayan water crisis by integrating policy-making, community participation, and technological surveillance. Abstract in Hindi Language:
