Amid the dominance of the “Tai Ge Style” (Courtly Style) in the early Ming poetry scene, he developed a distinctive poetic style that differed from the mainstream, offering a corrective to the monopolistic influence of the Courtly Style and establishing a unique presence in Ming poetry. His poetry clearly expresses his political ideals, thoughts, and emotions, serving as a testament to his aspirations and leaving a profound mark on the history of Chinese poetry. Influenced by the revivalist thought of the early Ming Dynasty, Yu Qian’s poetic style exhibits diverse characteristics, demonstrating both the inheritance and development of Tang Dynasty poetry and Yuefu (Music Bureau) traditions. Additionally, his choice of imagery presents unique and distinctive features.
