Effects of Using Macadamia Extract to Improving Hair
Purpose: This study investigated whether the application of macadamia extract improved damaged hair. Methods: A formulation agent was prepared by adding 0 g and 3 g and 6 g and 9 g of macadamia extract and then applying the agent to sample hair bleached at eight levels. The samples treated with the formulation containing the macadamia extract were measured and compared with the damaged hair for analysis. To determine the hair’s change in brightness, the L* value was measured with a chrominance meter. Additionally, the hair’s tensile strength, and the effects of the treatment on bleached hair were evaluated by measuring both methylene blue absorbance and surface gloss. Results: For each sample, the L* value was found statistically insignificant when compared with M (3), M (6), and M (9). The higher each sample’s application content, the greater the statistically significant difference in average tensile strength. The absorbance measurement showed differences in the macadamia extract’s average value affecting damaged hair due to the difference between the average value and the statistical analysis result for each sample. As the application’s extract content increased, the average gloss measurement differed, and M (6) and M (9) showed statistically significant differences in gloss. Conclusion: The average value of the sample applied to damaged hair, extract amounts, and statistical analysis showed differences in tensile strength, absorbance, and gloss. In conclusion, the macadamia extract’s application improved damaged hair. Future research should investigate how other varied natural extracts affect damaged hair.
